Erica is back with two versions of the Tribeca Knit Camis she crafted for herself. She shares her creative process of modifying the pattern, including raising the neckline and adding more support to the shelf bra. She’s also been on a mission to use up scraps from her sewing stash, and these camis were the perfect project for that!
First up is the V-neck version. She decided to tweak the neckline to make it less plunging. Instead of just shortening the straps, which is often recommended, she wanted to keep the armscye placement intact. To do this, she adjusted the paper pattern by marking a new cutting line ¾ inch higher from the fold line. She carefully connected the old seam line intersection with the strap attachment point using a ruler, creating a new pink line. This adjustment was made on both the front cami and the shelf bra pieces. With her custom pattern ready, she cut and sewed it according to the original instructions. Voila! A perfectly personalized V-neck cami.
For the fabric, she chose an Art Gallery knit, which is 95% cotton with 5% lycra. It's soft, comfortable, and pairs beautifully with various colors. Here, she paired it with her favorite Lisboa Walking Shorts.
Next is the bateau-neck version. For this one, she used leftover fabric from an older ponte-knit top she had made years ago. The fabric has a striking stripe pattern, and she thought it would look great with the higher horizontal neckline for a nautical vibe. However, she knew that over time, this fabric might lose some structure. To compensate, she used a flesh-colored power mesh for the shelf bra lining. Power mesh offers excellent support without adding bulk, making it a great choice for this project.
She also added bra cups to both versions of the camis to eliminate the need for an additional bra. Following a simple method similar to Lyndsey's tutorial, she successfully integrated the cups, ensuring comfort and support.
Her daughter loved the results so much that she asked for some cropped versions for herself. With the green light to use up more scraps, Erica sees the Tribeca pattern as a fantastic way to bust her sewing stash while staying stylish during warmer weather.
After completing these projects, she felt a sense of accomplishment knowing she could create something beautiful while being resourceful. Sewing these camis was not only fun but also practical, giving her wardrobe a boost with minimal waste.
These two versions of the Tribeca Knit Camis showcase how easy it is to personalize patterns and make the most of your fabric stash. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sewer, this pattern is proving to be a versatile and inspiring choice for anyone looking to create their own summer wardrobe essentials.
