On December 5, 2006, an official from the Chongqing Textile Commission of the Economic Commission announced at the first arts and crafts industry conference that the draft "Chongqing Protection Measures for Traditional Arts and Crafts" was in progress. The municipal government's standing committee discussed and passed the plan.

It is understood that Chongqing has 10 categories of arts and crafts such as sculpture and lacquerware. Among them, the process of picking flowers, embossing glass, lacquerware, Rongchang pottery, and silver paper drawing has been lost.

Chongqing Economic Commission official said that in order to help Chongqing's traditional craftsman to escape the embarrassing predicament of brain drain and bankruptcy, the "Protection Measures" will formulate capital and policy protection for talents and handicrafts. Chongqing plans to allocate 3 million yuan from fiscal funds each year to subsidize arts and crafts projects and master craftsmen. In addition to granting financial support, it is also planned to open a dedicated traditional craft boutique city at Jiefangbei Pacific Place and Huguang Hall to open up sales channels. It is estimated that in the next five years, the output value of arts and crafts in Chongqing will reach 1 billion yuan, which is now 5 times.
