On June 21, the Italian police captured 25 million euros (36 million U.S. dollars) worth of counterfeit goods in the goods of some Chinese companies located near Florence.
Italian police said that before the operation, they had conducted a year-long investigation of the 70 Chinese leather and textile operators annexed to Florence, Pisa and Prato. At present, the police have frozen the alleged accounts and sealed up their cars and property.
The police accused the companies of earning large profits by hiring unregistered workers at low wages and selling counterfeit products. Then, the proceeds will be distributed in cash to China's bank account.
The police said that these companies have so far exported 238 million euros from Italy to China and have evaded all taxes. Italy currently conducts searches and arrests of these companies on charges of illegal fund transfer, tax avoidance, and corruption.
