Singapore allocates USD 5.6 million to train textile and apparel professionals The Singaporean government has announced that it will allocate 6.8 million Singapore dollars (about 5.6 million US dollars) for the training of talents in the textile and clothing industry to promote the sustainable development of the textile and apparel industry in Singapore.

It is understood that the training plan will be implemented by the Singapore Human Development Authority (WDA) in cooperation with the Singapore Textile and Apparel Association (TAFF). Its purpose is to cultivate the professional talents needed by the textile and garment industry to support the development of its industries in the direction of high added value. According to the relevant framework agreement, it will cost about S$2.8 million in the first year. The training programs involved mainly include product design and R&D, global procurement, and supply chain management and sales. The remaining 4 million yuan will be used to train another 2,800 professionals in the next three years.

A garment manufacturer in Singapore stated that WDA has helped the company recruit professionals with managerial expertise in Singapore to work in offices in Indonesia and Vietnam. “We prefer to hire Singaporeans to work in overseas offices because they understand the local professional ethics and work habits, and Singaporeans are also relatively easy to communicate and coordinate work matters between the Singapore headquarters and overseas offices.”
