Shanghai News Network reported that the internet sensation "Sharp Brother" has officially launched a new men's fashion brand called "Sharp Columbia" in Shanghai. The brand was introduced at a press conference held today, marking a significant step in the transition from online fame to a commercial venture. Investors, including Jiangsu-based entrepreneur Zhuang Weiguo from Tencent Finance, confirmed that the investment in the brand amounts to tens of millions of yuan. "Without such a large sum, it would be impossible to build a brand like this," Zhuang said during the event.
At the press conference, Zhuang also clarified the relationship between the "Sharp Brother" brand and the person behind it. He emphasized that "Sharp Brother" is the real founder, known for his iconic photo that went viral on the internet. However, he also mentioned that the individual is currently facing personal challenges and hasn't fully recovered from health issues. As a 34-year-old man, he feels the responsibility to support his family. Zhuang stressed that celebrities have the right to monetize their fame, and Sharp Brother can earn money through legitimate partnerships with brands using his image.
When asked about whether investors would profit from the brand, Zhuang stated that all payments made to Sharp Brother will be directly transferred to his China Construction Bank account. If users have concerns, they can request the account details themselves. Notably, Sharp Brother did not attend the event in person; instead, a male model was present as a stand-in, described by organizers as a "representative of Sharp Columbia." According to the organizers, the decision to not have Sharp Brother attend was made after discussions with his family, who chose not to expose him at this stage.
Looking ahead, the brand plans to leverage its online origins by launching digital-focused campaigns. Francisco Feod Deli, the brand's design director, explained that the brand targets young people, especially those born in the 80s and 90s, who are passionate about fashion trends. He highlighted that Sharp Brother, as one of China's youngest celebrity brands, aims to represent Chinese craftsmanship on the global stage.
Francesco Feod Deli previously worked with renowned international brands such as Gucci and Max Mara, and is considered one of the top designers in the industry. With this collaboration, Sharp Columbia is positioning itself as a fresh and innovative force in the men’s fashion market.
