On the 8th, it was learned from the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology that the archaeological site of the Shang Dynasty in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, has made significant progress, excavating important remains related to bronze smelting, and found in the lower floors of the site there are living utensils of the cultural factors of the Central Plains Erlitou. It should be close to the late Xia Dynasty. Experts believe that this is of great value to the study of the origin of Chinese early bronzes, and the history of Chinese bronze smelting was pushed to the Xia Dynasty.
The Qimailing Shang Dynasty site has been excavated since the second half of 2013. After initial drilling, its distribution range is about 50,000 square meters, and the excavation area is 2,000 square meters. At present, a number of houses in the early Shang Dynasty, ash pits, and wells related to bronze smelting and casting, such as wells and furnaces, have been discovered and unearthed. A large number of stoneware, pottery, jade and bronze vessels in the early and middle stages of the Shang Dynasty were unearthed.
According to the on-site archaeologists, the residential areas related to smelting and casting were grayish white. The houses were found to be ignited by fire-burned stones, wood-bone mud-walls, and other items related to smelting. In the sluice wells, discarded copper ore, furnace walls, slag, pottery spoons and other utensils were found in the wells and surrounding soils. Two remnants of the elliptical braised earthenware refining furnace were also found in the site. The wall of the furnace was blue-gray and the barbecue temperature was very high. There are indications that this is a bronze casting remains with a wide distribution area, tight structure and complete combination.
Xu Changqing, director of the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, said that from the unearthed relics, the main body of the Shangmai dynasty site was between the early Shang Dynasty and the Chinese merchants; another found in the lower ruins of the site was the 文化, beans, etc. Living utensils, the lower age of the site should be close to the late Xia Dynasty. Xu Changqing said that the next step will be to excavate the lower layers of the site. If the smelting remains of the Erlitou period can continue to be discovered, the history of Chinese bronze smelting will be pushed to the Xia Dynasty.
It is reported that the Shangmailing Shang Dynasty site is located in Mahuiling Town, Jiujiang County, and the bronze civilization in the vicinity has been concerned for a long time. A large number of bronzes with local characteristics have been unearthed in the southern eucalyptus, Xingan and other places, and may also be associated with the Shangmailing Shang Dynasty.
To the north of the Rumailing site, the distance from the Ruichang Tongling Copper Mine is only 40 kilometers. Experts have concluded that the smelting materials in the Rumailing site are likely to come from the Tongling copper mine site. The Ruichang Tongling Copper Mine Site is the middle-age site of the Shang Dynasty dating back to 3300. It is the earliest, best preserved and most abundant bronze ore deposit site in China. It is one of the symbols of Chinese bronze civilization. Exploring the source of raw materials for China's highly developed bronze foundry industry, as well as studying China's metallurgical history and civilization history are extremely important.
